Oteley Road in Shrewsbury work due in summer

The road outside Shrewsbury Town Football Club will remain open following matches next season if footway widening work is completed in time, Shropshire County Council officers said today (Thursday 3 April).

Jason Hughes, Shropshire County Council’s principal traffic engineer, said work was needed to make Oteley Road safer for people leaving the stadium, but it was hoped this would be done over the summer.

A public notice has been served giving the council the option of closing the road after football matches until 10 March 2009 – but that option will not be taken up if the work is done on schedule.

Jason Hughes said: "Oteley Road will be closed for short periods following the forthcoming games against Wrexham and Chester.

“We do have the option of closing the road following football matches until 10 March 2009.

“However, we hope to have completed the work to make the footways safe for pedestrians by the end of this summer, meaning the road will be able to stay open from the start of next season."
