Hampton Loade Lane, which was badly damaged by severe storms in June, will reopen today (Tuesday 6 November) following five weeks of reconstruction work carried out by Shropshire County Council and its contractors Mouchel Parkman and JDM Accord (see further information).
Work began on 1 October, and has been completed five days ahead of schedule.
Hampton Loade Lane serves around 30 properties and several businesses, including a caravan park, pub, Hampton Loade ferry and Severn Valley Railway.
During the work, 650 tonnes of Tarmac and 300m of kerbing were laid, and 400m of drainage pipe and 11 road gullies were installed.
Some 200m of BT ducting was also installed, to ensure that BT works planned for this year would not mean digging up the newly-laid road surface.
During the work a local farmer provided alternative car parking for residents, and access was provided throughout for two residents who needed regular hospital treatment.
John Everall, Shropshire County Council’s Cabinet member for environment and sustainability, said: “Our priority was to to complete this essential work as quickly and effectively as possible, whilst causing the minimum possible disruption to local residents and businesses.
“I’m delighted that the work has been completed ahead of schedule, and would like to thank our contractors for their hard work, and thank local people for their co-operation and support whilst work was carried out.”
To allow maximum access for residents and businesses, work was carried out Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 3.00pm and no work was carried out at weekends.
Further information
The best time for the reconstruction work to be carried out was agreed following a public meeting in August.
The new road was designed by Mouchel Parkman, and construction work was carried out by JDM Accord.
