Shropshire County Council's Trading Standards Service held a seminar yesterday (Wednesday 27 February) for businesses in Shropshire. The audience included companies from the motor and furniture trades, advertisers and newspapers.
The seminar covered the law relating to consumer credit, and was designed to help businesses comply with the law when drafting advertisements and selling goods on credit. Consumer credit law can be a minefield for businesses. Recent changes in the law have resulted in new regulations for advertisers, including newspaper, fliers and radio advertisements.
David Edwards, Head of Shropshire County Council's Trading Standards Service, said: "I was delighted that we were able to put this event on for the benefit of local businesses. We aim to be responsive to the needs of all businesses, and we were hearing that many were struggling to understand the new regulations."
Any business in Shropshire can seek advice about consumer credit or any other trading standards matters through the business advice line on (01743) 254144.
Officers aim to respond to queries within five working days.
