Waste and recycling will be the main item on the agenda when the next meeting of the Action: Ludlow and Ludlow Rural local joint committee is held on Wednesday 2 April. The meeting will be held at Ludlow College starting at 7.00pm, and all local residents are invited to attend.
The meeting will give people in the Ludlow area another chance to meet with local councillors, get involved in decisions affecting their community and help decide how the committee spends its budget.
The last meeting - held on 15 January - discussed public transport in south Shropshire, parking in Ludlow town centre, and Shropshire County Council’s budget proposals. It also awarded grants totalling £30,500 to 16 local community-based organisations (see notes).
Peter Corston, Shropshire County Councillor for Ludlow, said: “The Action: Ludlow and Ludlow Rural meetings are giving local people a real chance to say how they think services and facilities in the area could be improved. As Chair of the meeting, I am very pleased with the progress made in a very short time, and feel that the parishes now feel very much part of that progress.”
Viv Parry, Shropshire County Councillor for Ludlow Rural, said: “The meetings held so far have offered some valuable suggestions about how and where the committee should spend its budget, and a number of important issues have been raised and discussed. However, we are really keen for people to come to this next meeting to tell us what else they think we could or should be doing to improve the area.”
The Action: Ludlow and Ludlow Rural meetings have a committee of county, district, town and parish councillors drawn from the area, and a small budget which the committee allocates in response to issues raised by members of the public.
Action: Ludlow and Ludlow Rural is one of five local committee pilots that have been meeting in Shropshire for the past year.
The Shropshire Council Implementation Executive recently agreed that, following the success of the pilots, each should continue for at least another 12 months, and that six further local committees should also be set up.
