Within the next few weeks Shropshire County Council is hoping to exchange contracts and complete the purchase of the Cambrian branch railway line from Gobowen to Porth-y-waen.
The stretch of land, currently owned by National Rail, will be used for a number of projects including the construction of a new access for the Primary Care Trust in Oswestry, the development of a heritage railway and an extension to cycle route number 31.
Once the county council owns this land they will also clear it of litter, enhancing the area in preparation for the planned new projects.
Joyce Barrow and Phil Box, local county councillors for Oswestry, said: “The purchase of the Cambrian branch line is an exciting catalyst for these dependant projects. We are hoping that this will have a positive impact by generating visitors and improving the viability of the area.”
