Plans to amalgamate Lydbury North and Clunbury schools move forward

Shropshire County Council’s cabinet voted today (Wednesday 25 June) to move forward with proposals to merge Lydbury North and Clunbury schools in south Shropshire.

Councillors decided to go ahead with the plan, which recommends that Lydbury North School will close and significant capital investment will go into the Clunbury site.

Formal notices will now be issued to close Lydbury North School and expand Clunbury School to 120 places, to serve the combined catchment areas of both schools.

A six-week consultation period will then follow, during which people will be able to send their views to the council. Cabinet will consider the proposals following that period, when a final decision will be made.

Councillor Ann Hartley, Cabinet member for children’s services, said: “It was important to make a decision today to halt the uncertainty and move forward. We feel expanding the Clunbury site will result in a first-rate facility, building on Lydbury North and Clunbury’s excellence. The school will be sustainable and will benefit both communities and the whole area for years to come.”
