Parking restrictions in Ellesmere temporarily suspended

Shropshire County Council has suspended the enforcement of limited waiting and loading restrictions in Ellesmere, so that a review of these restrictions can be carried out.

From last Saturday (1 December), the limited waiting and loading restrictions on Cross Street, High Street, Scotland Street, Market Street and Wharf Road are not being enforced, pending a full review.

However, double yellow line restrictions in the town are continuing to be enforced, to prevent dangerous parking.

Phil Crossland, Assistant Director – Transport and Highways with Shropshire County Council, said: “As a result of representations to Shropshire County Council there have been a series of communications and meetings with both Ellesmere Town Council and Ellesmere Chamber of Trade and Commerce, starting last April.

“Shropshire County Council currently thinks that the restrictions are too onerous and not necessary on traffic grounds, and we have therefore agreed to temporarily suspend the enforcement of parking and loading restrictions while this review is carried out.”

It is anticipated that the outcome of this review will considered at the April 2008 Decriminalised Parking Enforcement Review meeting, which involves Shropshire County Council, North Shropshire District Council, West Mercia Police and ParkRight.
