Press release - 27 June 2007
Pupils at Mount Pleasant Infant and Junior Schools have been trying out the new puffin crossing on Mount Pleasant Road, Shrewsbury.
The new crossing was officially opened on Wednesday 27 June by County Councillor John Everall, watched by children, parents and headteachers from the two schools, plus representatives from Shropshire County Council, design engineers Mouchel Parkman, contractors JDM Accord and West Mercia Police.
Shropshire County Council provided the crossing as part of its traffic management and safer routes to school programmes.
John Everall, Shropshire County Council’s Cabinet member for environment and sustainability, said: “I am very pleased to try out the new puffin crossing and believe that it will be a huge help for parents and children as they walk to and from school."
Alan Mosley, Shropshire County Councillor for Castlefields and Ditherington, said: “Feedback from the schools, residents and shopkeepers has been very positive. I welcome this much-needed facility."
