Consumer challenge quiz final

Press release - 25 June 2007

Pupils from Severndale School are set to represent Shropshire in the national Consumer Challenge Quiz final last Tuesday, 25 June, as part of the Trading Standards Institute conference held this year in Manchester.

Severndale School will battle it out against 22 teams from across England, Scotland and Wales, answering questions on topics such as consumer rights, age restricted goods, money and finance, food safety and transport safety.

The qualifying quiz, organised by Shropshire County Council Trading Standards, was held in November 2006 to raise awareness of consumer issues amongst young people (aged between 11 and 18), with moderate learning difficulties, in a fun and exciting way.

Joanne Kilcoyne, Shropshire County Council’s senior fair trading officer, said: “This is the first time we have taken part in the Consumer Challenge event and we think it has provided a great opportunity to make young people with learning difficulties more aware of their consumer rights, and give them important life skills.

“We wish our Shropshire pupils all the very best in the quiz final”.
