Work on road safety improvements outside Beech Grove Junior School in Oswestry began early this week (Monday 4 February).
The four week scheme, funded by Shropshire County Council’s Safer Routes to School programme, involves alterations to the junction area between The Green and Beech Grove, informal pedestrian crossings and the provision of school warning signs. The street lighting on Beech Grove will also be upgraded and will be funded jointly with Oswestry Town Council.
To allow this work to be carried out safely, sections of The Green, at its junction with Beech Grove is closed until Sunday 17 February.
Access for pedestrians, dismounted cyclists and horse riders will be maintained throughout this closure. Vehicular access to properties will also be available.
Whilst this section of road is closed a signed diversion route will be in place via Laburnum Drive for vehicles accessing The Green from Beech Grove.
Victoria Merrill, Shropshire County Council’s transport planner, said: “The development of this scheme follows concerns raised about the safety of crossing this section of road, as part of the school’s travel plan.
“We hope that by carrying out these improvements it will encourage more and more people to walk the school.”
