Press release - 5 January 2007
During January and February work will continue on the construction of a new access lane for the new Tesco store on Battlefield road.
To enable the work to be carried out safely, there will be road closures taking place during these two months, these will be undertaken in three separate phases.
New traffic signals at the Harlescott Lane/Battlefield road junction, and the Arlington Way/Battlefield road junction, as well as street lighting and sign modifications will also take place during this period so that disruption is kept to a minimum.
Following the Christmas break work will start again on Monday 8 January. For a three week period both Harlescott Lane and Featherbed Lane will be closed to traffic at their junctions with Battlefield road, enabling the safe installation of new traffic lights.
These closures will change the junction into a straight through junction (northbound and southbound) with a left turn available into Harlescott Lane from Whitchurch road only. Access will be maintained from Harlescott Lane to the new Lidl store, banks and all other businesses and properties in the area.
Access will also be maintained to all the car dealerships on Featherbed Lane from the Arlington Way direction. Diversions will be signposted.
Phase two will start on Monday 29 January and night time closures will be in place on Battlefield road between Harlescott lane and Arlington Way. The road will be closed from 7.30pm to 6.30am every night for a two week period to enable kerbing and new lighting works. A local diversion will be signed via Arlington Way.
To complete the works, from 12 February for a three week period, Battlefield road between Featherbed Lane and Arlington Way will operate in a one way direction - out of town only - in order to complete carriageway surfacing. A local southbound diversion will be signed via Arlington Way.
Again, access to all businesses and properties will remain unaffected.
Andrew Dunham, contracts director for McPhillips, working with Tesco, said: “We apologise in advance for any inconvenience these works may cause, and promise that every reasonable effort will be taken to complete them as soon as possible."
