Better access to council services in Much Wenlock

Shropshire County Council is opening Much Wenlock Museum and Visitor Information Centre this winter – and offering a new Shropshire Customer First service to residents and visitors. Usually the museum closes for winter, but from now until the end of March, the museum will be opening on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10.30am to 1.00pm, and from 1.30pm to 5.00pm.

You are invited to drop into the museum to find out about the history of Much Wenlock and the Olympic games, access a wide range of visitor information and try out the new Shropshire Customer First information point. The new information point is trialling innovative technology which enables customers to touch a button and speak face to face to trained advisers at Shropshire County Council and other organisations via a television link.

Trained advisers based at the County Council’s Customer Service Centre in Shrewsbury can help residents and visitors with advice on travel, recycling and refuse, blue badges, meals on wheels, free school meals and much more. In addition to council services, Citizens Advice Shropshire, Age Concern and A4U will soon be offering confidential advice and support on a wide range of topics.

The new television link is very easy to use, people do not need any technical skills, they will be able to see and talk to advisors as if they were in the same room.

Councillor Barbara Craig, Cabinet Member for Community Services said “Customer First points are revolutionising the way in which people can access a range of services provided by Shropshire County Council. This new service is aimed at improving access to information and services in rural communities.”

Nigel Nixon, Head of Museum Service, said “It is great news that Much Wenlock Museum and Visitor Information Centre will be open to residents and visitors over the winter.”
