Whittington Castle has today (Monday 5 November) been granted a licence by Shropshire County Council to stage civil ceremonies.
This means that Shropshire residents can now hold civil wedding, civil partnership, civil naming, citizenship and re-affirmation of wedding vow ceremonies at the castle.
The approved venues list now includes more than 50 premises across Shropshire, including castles, stately homes, colleges and village halls.
Karen Burton, Business Service Manager with Shropshire County Council’s Registration & Celebratory Service, said: “We’re delighted to add Whittington Castle to our long and growing number of approved venues.
“It offers a fantastic location for anyone getting married, naming a child, forming a civil partnership or even reaffirming their marriage vows.”
Anyone interested in booking a civil ceremony should contact the venue on 01691 662 397 in the first instance to check availability before contacting Shropshire Registration Service on 0845 678 9016.
A full list of approved civil ceremony venues can be found on this website at www.shropshire.gov.uk/registrar.nsf, where the location of each venue can also be viewed on ShropMap, an interactive map of the county.
