Residents and organisations will start to see some changes as the move to a new single council for Shropshire draws closer.
The rollout of the new council’s logo and branding is beginning to swing into action, and councillors are determined to make the process as cost effective as possible.
As part of that, stationery items such as printed letterheads are being replaced as stocks run out to ensure there is no wastage.
Any departments in the county council which need new stationery will now be able to use the new council’s letterhead. The aim is that by the time the new council is launched on 1 April 2009, all departments across the whole county will be able to use the new council’s branding without having to waste previous stationery or printed materials.
Councillor Dewi Davies, one of the member champions for communications, said: “As well as ensuring people are well informed about the new council coming into being on 1 April, we want to make sure this process does not waste money. So between now and April, people may see some different logos on literature from their council as part of the transition to Shropshire Council.”
Councillor Miles Kenny, also member champion for communications, added: “We ask that people please bear with us, as we want to make sure that all stationery and literature containing the old logo is used before we start sending out the new stuff. This isn’t intended to annoy or confuse, just to be sensible and make the best use of taxpayers’ money.”
Bridgnorth District Council, Oswestry Borough Council, Shrewsbury & Atcham Borough Council, North Shropshire District Council, South Shropshire District Council and Shropshire County Council will become one council called Shropshire Council from 1 April 2009.
Officers and councillors from all of these councils are working together to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible. The introduction of the Shropshire Council logo and branding is considered to be an important way for residents and organisations to identify the new council.
