Shropshire County Council, Bridgnorth District Council and Broseley CE Primary School are inviting local people to have their say on a proposal to construct a new path to the school.
The proposal includes the construction of a two metre-wide path from a small car park on Cockshutt Lane, around sports pitches on the Birch Meadow recreation ground to meet path at the rear of the school. It is hoped that the new path will encourage more walking and cycling to school as well as ‘parking and striding’.
A School Travel Plan, adopted in 2006, identified opportunities for improving path around the school, whilst also raising a number of safety concerns regarding Dark Lane. In 2007, the council installed amber flashing warning lights on Dark Lane.
The council is now seeking the views of local people on the new path.
John Everall, Shropshire County Council’s Cabinet member for environment and sustainability, said: “We want people to get involved and have their say on this exciting proposal to encourage more pupils to walk to the school.”
Jean Jones, who represents Broseley on the town, district and county councils, added: “A new path will not only help children and parents walking to school, but will also improve links between local sports facilities and complement work to upgrade the Birch Meadow recreation ground.”
Full colour copies of the drawings can be viewed via the link, and at Broseley Library and Broseley CE Primary School.
