Clun Bridge set to re-open

Press release - 14 September 2007

Clun Bridge is set to re-open to traffic by 8pm tonight (14 September 2007) following a five day closure for urgent repair work to be carried out.

The bridge, which carries the A488 road in Clun, was damaged by a large vehicle in August.

The repairs have involved taking down and rebuilding a sizeable length of the bridge’s eastern parapet wall, something that could not be done safely without closing the road.

John Williams, Shropshire County Council’s principal bridge engineer, said: “It is appreciated that this road closure has caused inconvenience to the local community and we would like to apologise for this.

“Every effort was made by us and our contractors to complete these essential works as quickly as possible. The timing for the repair work was chosen to minimise the impact on tourist businesses in the area”.
