Still time to pick hometown favourite in Pride of Place poll

More than 16,950 people have gone online to vote for their favourite place in the first national council-led poll.

Residents in Shropshire are being urged to join in and demonstrate pride in their home town by voting for their top attraction.

Shropshire County Council is reminding residents to visit the website and click on the ‘Pride of Place’ link to vote for one of ten top spots. The poll can be accessed from council websites until 30 November 2007 after which the final results will be declared.

So far 29% per cent of voters have chosen Carding Mill Valley and the Shropshire Hills as the place that makes them most proud in the area. Following closely behind is the Shropshire Countryside and Attingham Park but if you prefer Shrewsbury Castle, Dudmaston, or Bridgnorth, visit www.shropshire.gov.uk to make your vote count.

The Pride of Place poll is part of the Government’s ‘Connect to your Council’ campaign, which aims to encourage citizens to access their local authority services online - anytime, anywhere. People can now use council websites to find out anything from planning information to applying for school places. Alternatively, they can visit www.direct.gov.uk/mycouncil for more details of the range of online services now available.
