The county flag at Shirehall in Shrewsbury will fly at half-mast this Friday (16 November) in memory of former county councillor Eva Harrison, who has passed away at the age of 91.
Mrs Harrison served as county councillor for College ward in Wellington from 1973 to 1977, and served on Oakengates District Council and Wellington District Council in the early 1970s.
She also spent a year as Chairman of Wrekin District Council, where she took a keen interest in nursery education and family policy.
In the 1970s Eva Harrison also became the first female member of the local police authority.
A funeral and thanksgiving service is being held at the Methodist Church, New Street, Wellington, on Friday at 2.00pm.
Brian Gillow, Chairman of Shropshire County Council, will represent the council at the service. He said: “I was very sorry to hear of the death of Eva Harrison, who was a hardworking and dedicated councillor, at both county and district level. On behalf of Shropshire County Council I would like to pass on my condolences to her family and friends.”
To reflect Eva Harrison’s interest in children and families, a collection will be made, with all proceeds going to the NSPCC.
