Shropshire County Council Cabinet members today (Wednesday 22 October) gave approval to some exciting new developments which will provide better accommodation for adults with learning disabilities in Shrewsbury, as well as improving facilities at a home for older people also in Shrewsbury.
As part of the proposals Crowmoor House will also have improvements made, including upgraded bathrooms, redecoration and refurbishment, and enhanced lounge accommodation through a new garden room which will open out onto one of the courtyard gardens.
Councillor Stuart West, Older People Champion for Shropshire, said: “People moving to alternative accommodation will have the reassurance of knowing that the staff will be supporting their needs, and the accommodation will be of the highest standard.”
Residents at Eskdale House in Monkmoor will be offered the opportunity to move to other homes which are more modern, spacious and specifically designed to meet their needs.
Councillor David Gibbon, Champion for Disabilities, said: “This proposal is important to ensure that people who were living in Eskdale have a good standard of accommodation that equals that which is available in other homes owned by Shropshire County Council.”
Adrian Johnson, Head of Learning Disabilities, said: “The existing accommodation at Eskdale is no longer suitable to meet the needs of our residents. These changes will provide better-quality accommodation with more appropriate facilities and activities to meet individual needs.”
Councillors and social care teams are working closely with both staff, residents, their families and carers to prepare for a smooth transition.
