Get reading and help Shropshire County Council's Library Service identify Shropshire’s Big Gay Read.
Elaine Moss, Principal Librarian with the Library Service, said: “The UK has a well established tradition of authors writing about, and for, the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. A national campaign from 2006 established the national Big Gay Read, and to celebrate LGBT History Month in February 2008 we are inviting people to help identify Shropshire’s favourite gay read.”
Any book written by or about gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people or experience can be nominated to the library service.
Shropshire’s libraries have a good selection of books from the category, and a reading list can be collected from any library or be downloaded from the website.
A voting slip can be picked up from any library in Shropshire or people can vote online (see link).
The closing date for entries is 31 January. and the winning author and title will be announced on 20 February at a joint event being organised by Shropshire County Council's Library Service and Age Concern, at the Lantern in Shrewsbury.
