Road closure for football match

Oteley Road in Shrewsbury will be temporarily closed when Shrewsbury Town play Fulham on Tuesday 28 August, to make it safer for fans walking to and from the club’s new stadium.

The road will be closed from 6.30pm until 11pm and traffic will be unable to join Oteley Road from Meole Brace roundabout during these times.

Vehicles visiting or leaving the stadium, or homes and businesses on Oteley Road, will be able to do so, but must join the road from the Weeping Cross island.

On the same night temporary parking restrictions will also be in place from 6.30pm until 9pm in the residential streets surrounding the stadium (see attachment), to ensure that local residents are able to park outside their homes that evening.

Cones will be placed along these streets to show that parking is prohibited, and ParkRight attendants will be enforcing the restrictions, which will not apply to residents.

Phil Crossland, Shropshire County Council’s assistant director for transport and highways, said: “Many people have raised concerns about the safety of pedestrians walking to and from the stadium, particularly those using the railway bridge. The temporary road closure has been introduced to address these concerns and to make it safer and easier for fans to visit the ground on foot.

“We are also liaising with the club to address the concerns of residents living near the stadium, and I hope these additional parking restrictions will minimise disruption to local residents.”

- A letter has been issued to residents regarding these temporary restrictions.
- ParkRight wardens have been asked to identify residents vehicles so that they can be excluded from these restrictions. If tickets are issued, residents will need to appeal by writing to ParkRight, PO Box 161, Shrewsbury, SY3 8YX.
