Closure for Oteley Road

Press release - 30 August 2007

Oteley Road in Shrewsbury will be temporarily closed when Shrewsbury Town play Grimsby Town this Saturday (1 September), to make it safer for fans walking from the club’s new stadium.

The road will be closed between the Meole Brace and Weeping Cross Roundabouts at the end of the game, from 4.30pm until 5.30pm. Traffic will be unable to join Oteley Road from Meole Brace roundabout during this time.

Vehicles leaving the stadium, or homes and businesses on Oteley Road, will be able to do so, but must leave the road by Weeping Cross Roundabout.

For all other traffic, a signed diversion route will be in place via Hazeldine Way, Pritchard Way, Haycock Way and Wenlock Road.

From 1.00pm traffic cones will be placed on residential streets surrounding the stadium to ensure residents are able to park outside their homes that afternoon.

Hugh Dannatt, Shropshire County Council’s group manager for traffic strategy, said: “The recent closure of Oteley Road and the introduction of temporary parking restrictions in neighbouring streets was very much welcomed by both fans and local residents. The road closure will again be in place to allow fans to safely leave the stadium by foot at the end of the match.

“We are currently liaising with the club to find a more permanent solution for pedestrian safety and residents concerns.”
