New cycle parking stands have recently been installed for visitors to Shropshire Archives and Shrewsbury Reference Library.
The four stands installed by Shropshire County Council’s Transport Planning team have been placed near the entrance to the Archives, just off Castle Gates next to the Reference Library and are already proving popular with visitors.
Councillor John Everall, Cabinet member for environment and sustainability said: “When cycle parking is easy to use and close to people’s destinations, there is evidence that this encourages more people to cycle on their everyday journeys. There is already cycle parking at the main Shrewsbury Library, which is well-used. These new stands will be closer and more convenient for users of Shropshire Archives and Shrewsbury Reference Library”.
Shropshire County Council’s Transport Planning team aim to put further cycle stands in places which are well-used by the public and have also supplied stands for other libraries round the county (including the ones in Bridgnorth District) as well as shopping centres, churches and tourist attractions.
Mary McKenzie from Shropshire Archives said: “We have been wanting to provide proper cycle parking facilities for several years. It’s easy to get here by bike and quite a few of our staff and visitors cycle. We are very pleased with the new stands and we’re hoping to put in staff cycle parking at the rear of the building soon.”
The Transport Planning team welcome suggestions of other sites which would be suitable for cycle parking.
