Press release - 6 July 2007
Shropshire County Council and their contractors JDM Accord have found a cost-effective and environmentally-friendly way of restoring the county’s roads, with water!
Despite experiencing the wettest summer since records begun, the county’s roads are still getting hot.
This hot weather coupled with the volume of traffic brings bitumen to the surface of the road. This reduces the road surface texture and increases the risk of vehicles travelling at high speed skidding in wet weather.
The new Aqua Texture machine uses high pressure recycled water to restore the surface of the road, adding texture and improving skid resistance. This in turn also prolongs the life of the existing road surface.
This machine can also be used to remove old or unwanted road markings.
John Everall, Cabinet member for environment and sustainability, said: “This is an excellent machine which provides great value for money and enables us to obtain longer life from our existing road surfaces”.
