Two special lunch menus are to be served in primary schools across Shropshire next week.
On Wednesday 23 April, children will be able to celebrate St George’s Day by tucking into a selection of traditional English foods. On the menu that day will be fish, chips and peas, toad in the hole served with mashed potato, carrots and gravy, and ‘Queen of Hearts jam tarts’ with creamy custard. Trifle, fruit salad and yoghurt will also be available.
And on Thursday 24 April, pupils can enjoy a special Moroccan menu, which includes Meditteranean lamb, Moroccan chicken in pitta pockets, garlic and herb wedges, tomato and pepper bread and cous cous. Lemon drizzle cake and apricot cookies will also be on offer.
Vegetarian options will be available on both days.
Ann Hirst, primary schools area manager with Shropshire County Council’s school meals service, said: “Every day our primary school cooks serve up a wonderful selection of tasty, nutritious foods. We hope these fantastic special menus will provide children with an added incentive to try lunch at school on either one or both days.”
A main course and dessert costs £1.75.
