Wyle Cop in Shrewsbury will need to be closed for a short time this weekend (7 until 8 June 2008) to allow for essential resurfacing work to be carried out.
This work follows on from the successful final phase to enhance the pavements along this route which was completed last month, over a week earlier than expected.
For this work to be carried out safely, the road will need to be closed from its junction with Beeches Lane to just past its junction with Dogpole.
This section of road will be closed from 7pm on Saturday evening through to Sunday, when it will be opened as soon as the work is completed. The road will remain open up until 7pm on Saturday to avoid peak travel times and minimise disruption.
Signed access will be maintained along the route for essential traffic only, such as local residents, loading, parking and for emergency vehicles.
In order to maintain this access, Castle Gates and Castle Street will be two-way, so that vehicles can access and exit along the same route.
Whilst this road is closed, cars and other small vehicles will be diverted along Beeches Lane, Town Walls, Belmont, Princess Street and Market Street. Heavier vehicles will be diverted along Beeches Lane, Town Walls and St. John’s Hill.
Jeremy Salisbury, Shropshire County Council’s principal engineer for projects, said: “We understand that this work will cause some inconvenience, however we have worked hard to ensure that it is timed appropriately to minimise this as much as possible.”
This brings to a close the works which have required closures of major through routes in the town.
