Shropshire County Council’s South West rural youth project is holding an open evening to celebrate the opening of their new facilities.

The youth project, which is based at the Community College in Bishop's Castle, has recently been extended following a successful application for funding from the Youth Capital Fund.

The extra space will support a variety of exciting activities such as Decks Club, Hyperlink (digital media and music), the safe drinking project, Duke of Edinburgh Award, Community Action Group and the mobile outreach work. The new space will also be used to form a new activity group in Bishops Castle for young people aged 13 and above.

Ann Hartley, Cabinet member for children’s services said: “Youth projects such as this give young people a great opportunity to spend time with other young people and join in on activities in a safe environment. This wonderful new extension means that more young people can benefit from the activities available.”

The open evening is taking place on Wednesday 11 June between 4.30 and 8.30 and everyone is invited to drop in and find out more. For further information about the open evening contact Irene Stelfox, Senior Youth Worker on: 01588 638809 or email: Irene.stelfox-griffin@shropshire.gov.uk.
