Places available for ‘Girls Bike It’ course in Ludlow

Ludlow’s first ‘Girls Bike It’ cycling course, solely for teenage girls aged 11 to 16, will take place at the Ludlow Youth Centre this Easter holiday - and there are still some places available.

Organised by Shropshire County Council’s transport planning and road safety cycle training team members, the two day course will run on Monday 31 March and Tuesday 1 April.

The course will provide up to 12 girls from Ludlow and south Shropshire secondary schools with an opportunity to learn more about their bikes and how to ride more confidently and safely.

The lucky participants will also be provided with a short cycle training course and finish the two days with a group cycle ride around the town.

Thanks to regional Department of Health funding, the course is free.

Ray Hughes, Shropshire County Council’s school travel plan coordinator, said: “This course is open to all abilities and not just those who are already confident cyclists. It is particularly helpful to those who missed out on cycle training at primary school.

“We aim to teach the group some cycling skills and provide enjoyable experiences in a safe environment in the hope the students will use their bikes more often, including possibly the journey to school.

“Our first course in February at the Shrewsbury Sports Village attracted 10 participants and their feedback was very positive.”

People can find out more about the course or apply for a place by calling Sheri Ashton or Ray Hughes on 01743 253137.
