Press release - 24 August 2007
Shropshire County Council will today issue Shrewsbury Town Football Club with a full safety certificate for the club’s new stadium, meaning that the ground can operate at full capacity for all future matches.
At a meeting of the county council-chaired Football Safety Advisory Group held on Wednesday (22 August), it was agreed that the capacity would be increased from 8000 to 8785, and that a full certificate would be issued once a small number of outstanding issues had been satisfactorily addressed.
The county council has today (Friday 24 August) received assurances from the club that these outstanding issues have now been addressed, and has therefore agreed to issue the certificate for the full capacity.
Phil Crossland, Assistant Director – Highways and transport with Shropshire County Council said: “The club has been working hard to address all the issues necessary for a full safety certificate to be issued. I’m pleased to say that these issues have now been addressed to the satisfaction of the county council and we are happy to issue the club with a full safety certificate for the new stadium.”
