Shrewsbury Town stadium becomes approved wedding venue

Shropshire residents can now get married at Shrewsbury’s Town’s new stadium after it was today (Tuesday 27 November) granted a licence to stage civil ceremonies.

The licence – issued by Shropshire County Council’s registration service – means that civil wedding, civil partnership, civil naming, citizenship and re-affirmation of wedding vow ceremonies can all now be held at the stadium.

It joins a list of more than 50 other approved venues across Shropshire, including castles, stately homes, colleges and village halls.

Karen Burton, Business Service Manager with Shropshire County Council’s Registration & Celebratory Service, said: “We’re delighted to add Shrewsbury Town’s new stadium to our long and growing list of approved venues.

“It is a wonderful new ground and offers a fantastic location for anyone – football fan or not – to get married, name a child, form a civil partnership or even reaffirm their marriage vows.”

Anyone interested in booking a civil ceremony should first contact the stadium on 0871 811 8800 to check availability, before then contacting Shropshire Registration Service on 0845 678 9016.

A full list of approved civil ceremony venues can be found on the Shropshire County Council website at www.shropshire.gov.uk/registrar.nsf, where the location of each venue can also be viewed on ShropMap, an interactive map of the county.

More information about civil ceremonies and approved venues is also available by calling 0845 678 9016.
