Hundreds of people enjoyed a fun day in Shrewsbury to mark the launch of Castlefields & Ditherington Neighbourhood Forum. The event took place at Shrewsbury Fire Station on Saturday, and organisers said they were delighted with the turnout.

Members of the neighbourhood forum steering group had arranged the day to give residents some free entertainment as well as telling people about the forum.

County councillor for Castlefields and Ditherington, Alan Mosley, said the neighbourhood forum would enable residents to become more involved with councillors and other organisations, and give them a real influence in the local decision making process.

He said: “The fun day was a great success and hundreds of people came along to enjoy the entertainment. We handed out leaflets explaining what the neighbourhood forum was all about and spoke to lots of people about how they could get involved. We also asked people to fill in a questionnaire about their views of the area which will be used in an action plan to help focus future development in Castlefields and Ditherington.”

Entertainment at the fun day was provided by members of The Zone music project run by Shropshire Youth Service, along with belly dancers, the Safer Shropshire Partnership, North Shrewsbury Friendly Neighbours and other community organisations.

The Reccy Rangers Play Van entertained youngsters, while firefighters demonstrated their fire engines and the police showed visitors what the inside of a police van was like.

Alan Mosley added: “The neighbourhood forum is very grateful to everyone who came along to the fun day, especially the fire service who were very helpful and provided an excellent venue.

“First sight of the responses to the questionnaire shows a high level of satisfaction with living in the area, but also a lot of concern with litter, traffic and anti-social behaviour.”

All residents of Castlefields and Ditherington are invited to the next full meeting of the neighbourhood forum which will be held on 5 December at Mount Pleasant Junior School from 7.00pm.
