Bank holiday recycling reminder

Press release - 21 August 2007

Shropshire residents planning to spend the bank holiday weekend decorating, gardening or doing DIY are being reminded that they can recycle their waste at one of Shropshire County Council’s household recycling centres.

On Saturday, Sunday and bank holiday Monday, the five centres – located at Barnsley Lane, Bridgnorth; Battlefield Enterprise Park, Shrewsbury; Craven Arms Business Park, off Long Lane; Maesbury Road, Oswestry and Waymills Industrial Estate, Whitchurch – will be open from 9am to 6pm each day.

However, with the recycling centres likely to be busy over the weekend, people are being reminded that they can also visit on a weekday evening, when the centres open until 7pm and are generally quieter.

Around twenty different materials can be recycled at the recycling centres, including wood and timber, garden waste, scrap metal and cardboard.

Joyce Barrow, Chairman of Shropshire Waste Partnership, said: “We expect that a great deal of household and garden waste will be produced over the bank holiday weekend and we want to encourage people to recycle as much as they can, rather than throwing it in the bin.

“The recycling centres will be open throughout the weekend, but are also open until 7pm on weekday evenings and people wishing to avoid potential queues may want to consider visiting one evening next week instead.”

Anybody bringing household waste to one of the household recycling centres in a trailer or commercial-type vehicle must have a permit, which are available free of charge from Shropshire County Council's waste management unit. For more information call 0845 678 9009 or follow the link.
