Work started on new path to Broseley Primary School

Work started this week (Monday 28 April) on a new path, linking Broseley C.E. Primary School to Cockshutt Lane.

The two metre wide path, being developed by Shropshire County Council, will cross the Birch Meadow recreation ground and connect with existing footpaths at the rear of the school.

This path is as part of the council’s Safer Routes to School programme, in partnership with Bridgnorth District Council and Broseley Primary School.

Welcoming the improvements, Jonathan Pygott, Broseley C.E. Primary School’s head teacher, said: “The new path will create an excellent traffic-free link to our school. We are also working to improve the paths within the school site to make them suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Both these projects will really encourage walking to school, as well as ‘park-and-stride’ for pupils who live further away.”

Consultation which took place during March 2008 showed strong local support for the path improvements.

The path construction, designed by the council’s consultant Mouchel and to be constructed by their contractor Enterprise, will take approximately three weeks to complete, weather permitting.

There will continue to be public access to the Birch Meadow playing fields during the works, but users, particularly children, are being asked to take care and to keep clear of any fenced-off areas.
