Bishop’s Castle and Clun residents get chance to have their say

Residents of Bishop’s Castle, Clun and surrounding parishes can once again have their say about issues important to them, at the annual “Let’s Talk” meeting being run by their local councils on Monday 8 October at the SpArC theatre, Bishop’s Castle, starting at 7.00pm.

People of all ages and backgrounds are invited to the meeting, at which local councillors from Shropshire County Council, South Shropshire District Council and local town and parish councils will listen to comments and concerns raised by local people, and answer their questions.

People will be able to raise any issue, and it is expected that discussions may cover subjects including recycling, play centres, rural transport, affordable housing, and services and facilities for young people.

Comments can be made during a question and answer session, and the issues raised at the meeting will then help to shape planning at each of the councils.

Peter Phillips, Shropshire County Councillor for Bishop’s Castle, said: “The annual Let’s Talk meeting offers local people a unique opportunity to meet councillors from all of their local councils, and all at the same time. And it provides councillors with a great opportunity to find out about the issues that local people are interested in, or concerned about.”

Nigel Hartin, Shropshire County Councillor for Clun, added: “Some 50 people attended the 2006 Let’s Talk meeting, but we hope to attract an even greater number this year. We particularly encourage more young people to come along, as we are especially keen to hear about the issues that matter to them.”

Heather Kidd, South Shropshire District Councillor for Chirbury said: “We are delighted to once again work with our partners at county, town and parish council level to give the people of Bishop’s Castle, Clun and the surrounding parishes another opportunity to talk to their elected representatives about what matters to them.”

The meeting will begin with a brief report on what has been done over the past 12 months in response to issues raised last year. Everyone attending will be given feedback afterwards, telling them what the councils have done as a result of the meeting.

This is one of a series of 27 “Let’s Talk” meetings being held across Shropshire before the end of October. Entry to each meeting is free and refreshments will be provided.
