Striking animal sculptures have brought a touch of creativity to Helena Lane Day Centre in Ludlow.

Residents attending the centre were challenged to create their own sculptures which reflected and captured the characteristic of both wild and domestic animals.

Helena Lane received a grant from the Ludlow Marches Community Chest Scheme for the seven week sculpture workshop which was run by local artist and tutor Janice Barrett.

Councillor Barbara Craig, Cabinet member for community services said, “It’s always inspiring to hear of projects which celebrate the creativity of older people and that gives so much pleasure and fulfilment to those involved. These sculpture’s will make impressive centrepiece’s at the community centre.”

Cate Wallington, Helena Lane Day Centre Manager, said: “Our service users have worked incredibly hard over the last 7 weeks. It was both physically and mentally challenging but the end product was well worth it. I would like to thank the Ludlow Marches Community Chest Scheme, Francis Hall, Jenny Henrywood and Janice Barrett, for their generosity and support."

Don Wright who attends the day centre and made a horse in reminiscence of his Jockey days at Lambourne, Berkshire, said that the course was, “fantastic fun and effort for all who participated. All really enjoyed it and hope to repeat at some future date.”
