Shropshire County Council’s proposed resurfacing works at Frankwell, due to take place this weekend (Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 November), have been put on hold due to predicted adverse weather conditions.
The work, which is set to involve a temporary closure of Copthorne Road at its junction with Frankwell roundabout, parking restrictions and temporary traffic control, is now scheduled to take place the following weekend (Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 November).
The resurfacing work at Frankwell Quay will take place on Saturday 24 November from 7.00pm until 11.00pm, and on Sunday 25 November from 8.00am until approximately 10.00am.
During these times, traffic will not be able to turn left from Frankwell Quay onto the Welsh Bridge, and traffic will be diverted to Frankwell Roundabout.
Work at the roundabout will take place on Sunday 25 November from 8.00am until approximately 8.00pm. In order for this work to be carried out safely, Copthorne Road will need to be closed at its junction with the roundabout. During this closure, traffic will be diverted along Shelton Road and The Mount.
To keep disruption to a minimum and to help keep traffic flowing, stop and go signs will be used instead of traffic lights.
Access for pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained throughout the closure.
Gary Parton, Shropshire County Council’s co-ordination manager for the central division, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any disruption these works may cause. We will be putting in place a number of measures to keep this to an absolute minimum.
“This essential work is being carried out to improve safety on these busy roads.”
A roadworks embargo which came into effect this week means that between Monday 12 November and Monday 7 January roadworks will only be carried out for emergency or safety reasons.
