Press release - 6 July 2007

Shropshire County Council libraries in the Oswestry area are inviting children to go wild in the library this summer by joining the national summer reading challenge ‘The Big Wild Read’, starting from Saturday 14 July.

The theme this year is wildlife and conservation. The aim of the challenge is to read six books over the summer holidays, collecting stickers and prizes along the way.

This year there will be special registration days on Saturday 14 July at Oswestry Library from 10.30am to 12.00pm, Gobowen Library 10.30am to 12.00pm, and Ellesmere Library from 2.00pm to 3.30pm.

Those registering at these sessions will be entered into a free prize draw for a family ticket donated by Park Hall Countryside Experience.

Children can still join the challenge at any time after this date.

Barbara Craig, Shropshire County Council’s Cabinet member for community services, said: "The summer reading challenge is now an established part of Shropshire Libraries programme of activities for children during the summer holidays. It is a great way for children to enjoy reading and this year’s theme will be very popular."

Children registering at their local library or mobile library will receive a free starter pack and a packet of wild flower seeds.
