Birse Rail will be closing a section of the B4368 under Clun Road Rail Bridge this weekend. Contractors will be gritblasting the bridge, and to ensure the safety of the workforce and road users this section of road will be closed.
Work is expected to begin at 10pm this evening (10 October) and is anticipated to finish at 5am on Monday 13 October.
Clun Road Railway Bridge in Craven Arms, Shropshire will receive a cash injection from Network Rail as part of a nationwide scheme to makeover unsightly bridges. These railway bridges, which have been blighted by, rust, graffiti, fly posters and pigeons, will be thoroughly cleaned and re-painted to bring them back to their former splendour.
This initiative is part of a £20 million bridge cleaning programme to help improve the image of local communities. A total of 32 railway bridges across England and Wales will be restored.
These railway bridges have been selected after full inspection of their current state as well as based on feedback gathered from local community.
Decades of dirt, grime and graffiti will be blasted away using specialist high-powered equipment, before the bridges are given a full lick of paint.
During these works traffic will be diverted south along the A49, west on the A4113, northwest to Purslow and east to Craven Arms, and vice versa.
Cleaning of the remaining bridges will be carried out over the next few months and into March 2009 with minimal disruption to rail passenger services or public highways.
