Press release - 25 September 2007

Copthorne, Porthill and Bowbrook residents invited to have their say

People living in Copthorne, Porthill and Bowbrook in Shrewsbury can have their say about issues important to them, at the annual “Let’s Talk” meeting being run by their local councils on Wednesday 10 October at the Darwin Community Centre in Frankwell, starting at 7.00pm.

People of all ages and backgrounds are invited to the meeting, at which local councillors from Shropshire County Council and Shrewsbury & Atcham Borough Council will listen to comments and concerns raised by local people, and answer their questions.

Group discussions will cover activities for young people; planning issues and how the planning system works; highways and transport issues; policing; and having the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital as a neighbour. People will also be able to raise any other issues in a question and answer session compered by Jim Hawkins from BBC Radio Shropshire.

Anyone attending can get free parking at Shrewsbury & Atcham Borough Council’s Frankwell car park by collecting a pass from their reception at The Guildhall, Frankwell. And anyone wanting to attend who can’t access transport can call (01743) 253031, at least 24 hours before the meeting, to arrange for Ring & Ride to pick them up at an agreed location, and drop them off after the meeting.

Anne Chebsey, Shropshire County Councillor for Porthill, said: “I will start the meeting by giving brief feedback on what has been done over the past year in response to issues raised last year. A well-attended meeting raised a wide-range of local concerns last year, and we want to build on that this year. We particularly hope that more young people will attend this time, as we are especially keen to hear about the issues that matter to them.”

Speaking for Shrewsbury & Atcham Borough Council, its Leader Peter Nutting said: “Its very helpful for us to hear directly from the people we represent about the services they need and how we and our partner organisations can do things better. Afterwards, we’ll be writing to everyone who comes along, to give them feedback and tell them what we have done.”

This is one of 27 “Let’s Talk” meetings being held across Shropshire before the end of October. Entry to the meeting is free and refreshments will be provided.
