Press release - 3 July 2007
Shropshire County Council is celebrating their contribution to a new national toolkit, designed to help councils across the UK improve their sustainable energy performance to meet the ever increasing need for action against climate change at a local government level.
The new toolkit, which has been launched on Tuesday 3 July, draws on the knowledge and experience of Shropshire County Council, a Beacon council for sustainable energy.
The toolkit also includes input from six other Beacon status local authorities, The Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA), Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Department of Transport and Industry (DTi).
This toolkit is to be used by all councils regardless of their current level of commitment on sustainability issues, working as a stand alone tool to provide a wealth of guidance on action to improve.
John Everall, Shropshire County Council’s Cabinet member for sustainability, said: “We are extremely pleased to be helping to show the way for other councils to tackle climate change.
“We have been tirelessly working with the other Beacon councils to ensure that the good work that we were all doing could be replicated throughout the UK. We hope that the toolkit will provide valuable guidance for all local authorities on actions against climate change.”
