The local mobile library will be in the Square in Shrewsbury on Friday 17 October between 10am and 4pm, when staff from Shrewsbury Library and the local mobile library will be on hand to talk to people about what the service has to offer and how easy it is to access.

In this National Year of Reading, the library team are looking forward to not only saying hello to some of their regular visitors but hope to encourage people who have not joined before or used the library for some time, to come and find out more. They will have the opportunity to become a member of the library on the day and borrow books straight away. Joining the library and borrowing books is a very straightforward and free service provided by Shropshire County Council.

Kath George, Senior Librarian for Shrewsbury said: “Reading is as popular as ever and we have a wonderful library in Shrewsbury. If people haven’t visited for a while, they won’t have seen the displays of bestsellers, the latest non-fiction titles or one of our popular Toddler Tales sessions. Many people still think of libraries as the quiet stuffy places of old and this event gives everyone the opportunity to find out what just what a modern library has to offer."

There will also be someone on hand to talk about the Community Directory, who will be providing information about local clubs and societies as well as explaining how to enter details of their own club or society onto the database.

For parents and children alike there will also be the chance to meet the blue Bookstart Bear and take home a small bear as a memento.

Barbara Craig, Cabinet member for community services said, “This is a great opportunity for people in the town to visit a mobile library and at the same time find out about the whole range of services they can find at the town’s main library in Castle Gates."

If you have any questions about the library service or it’s some time since you last used the library this is a great opportunity to find out more. If you are unable to come on the 17th then why not come to the library in Castle Gates or contact us on 01743 255300.
