The winning title chosen by the people of Oswestry to celebrate the new library and the National Year of Reading will be announced on World Book Day, Thursday 6 March at Richard Burbidge Ltd.
After that date there will hundreds of copies available all around town in offices, shops, schools, factories, colleges, surgeries and, of course, at the library and also a programme of related events.
By the closing date for votes on Saturday 16 February Oswestry Library had received over 700 votes for the five shortlisted books with over 300 of these being placed on the Advertizer's website.
Councillor Barbara Craig, Shropshire County Council's Cabinet member for Community Services said, "We are absolutely delighted with the enthusiastic response to Oswestry Reads and for the invaluable support we have received from local organisations and businesses.
"We are particularly grateful to the champions of each book; these were Oswestry School (Private Peaceful), Walford and North Shropshire College (The Seeing Stone), Oswestry Town Council (Carrie's War), Marches School (Framed) and Oswestry Youth Cafe (Prince Caspian).
"We would also like to thank Richard Burbidge Ltd and Oswestry Borough Council for their help in promoting the idea and for offering to buy some copies of the winning title. By supporting Oswestry Reads everyone can play a part in celebrating the new library and the National Year of Reading".
If any individual, organisation or business would like to find out more and is interested in supporting Oswestry Reads in any way they can do so by contacting the library.
