Alan Evans

A Telford man has found work after being unemployed for almost two years, thanks to help from County Training.

Alan Evans, 56, from Wellington in Telford, had been unemployed since December 2006 and was finding getting back into work a challenge. Alan was referred by Jobcentre Plus to County Training’s, part of Shropshire County Council, Gateway programme. This programme focuses solely on job search, developing CV writing, interview techniques and letter writing.

Through County Training’s help and support, Alan found a position available as a Sales Advisor at the Parts Centre at Hortonwood in Telford. Alan was successful in his application and began work in October 2008.

Alan commented: “County Training really helped me to be more confident at interviews and helped me to update my CV and covering letter, which has been a great help in getting me the job that I am now in. I really enjoy my job and I really feel a part of the team.”

Parts Center are Europe's largest specialist supplier of spare parts and supply all the major branded spares for Domestic & Commercial Heating, Catering, Domestic Appliances and White Goods.

Councillor Barbara Craig, Cabinet member for Community Services, said: “County Training assists many individuals who have been out of the workplace for a considerable amount of time, such as Alan, back into work. County Training helps to develop not only job search skills and qualifications, but also helps to support the individual, giving them the confidence to apply for jobs.”

County Training is the largest training organisation in Shropshire. They have eight bases across the county, and are a major provider of work-based training for school leavers and for adults, either returning to work or retraining for the job market.
