Closure for Youth Hostel Bridge in Bridges

Youth Hostel Bridge in Bridges will be closed for 12 days from Monday 7 January until Friday 18 January 2008 so that it can be repaired.

The bridge, which carries an unclassified road between the Stiperstones and the Long Mynd over the River East Onny, was damaged by vehicular impact and several stones have been loosened or damaged in the eastern parapet.

For this work to be carried out safely, the bridge will need to be closed for the duration of the works.

When the road is closed, traffic will be diverted via Overs and Coates.

Access for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout.

John Williams, Shropshire County Council’s principal bridge engineer, said: “I’d like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience these works may cause, however I hope that people will understand that these repairs are necessary for safety reasons”.
