Bayston Hill residents get chance to have their say

Residents of Bayston Hill in Shrewsbury can once again have their say about issues important to them, at the annual “Let’s Talk” meeting being run by their local councils on Thursday 27 September at the Methodist Church Hall, Lansdowne Road, starting at 7.00pm.

People of all ages and backgrounds are invited to the meeting, at which local councillors from Shropshire County Council, Shrewsbury & Atcham Borough Council and local parish councils will listen to comments and concerns raised by local people, and answer their questions.

People will be able to raise any issue, and it is expected that discussions may cover subjects including the Parish Plan, community safety, traffic and transport, the local environment, and waste collection and recycling.

Comments can be made during a question and answer session, as well as in workshop groups, and the issues raised at the meeting will then help to shape planning at each of the councils.

Ted Clarke, County, Borough and Parish Councillor for Bayston Hill, said: "Our annual Let’s Talk meeting gives local people the opportunity to meet together with councillors and officers from each of their local councils and the local police, to discuss issues that are important to them. Let’s Talk compliments the monthly joint surgeries we hold, which give residents regular access to their councillors."

Alan Parkhurst, Borough and Parish Councillor for Bayston Hill, added: “Some 70 people attended the 2006 Let’s Talk meeting, and we hope to attract an even greater number this year. We particularly hope that more young people will attend this year, so that we can find out more about the issues that matter to them.”

Janet Whittall, Chair of Bayston Hill Parish Council, said: “We are delighted to once again work with our partners at county and borough level to give the people of Bayston Hill another opportunity to talk to their elected representatives about what matters to them.”

The meeting will begin with a brief report on what has been done over the past 12 months in response to issues raised last year. Everyone attending will be given feedback afterwards, telling them what the councils have done as a result of the meeting.

This is one of a series of 27 “Let’s Talk” meetings being held across Shropshire before the end of October. Entry to each meeting is free and refreshments will be provided.
