Church Stretton residents get chance to have their say

Residents from the Church Stretton area can once again have their say about issues important to them, at the annual “Let’s Talk” meeting being run by their local councils on Thursday 27 September at Church Stretton School (secondary school), starting at 7.00pm (doors open at 6.45pm).

People of all ages and backgrounds are invited to the meeting, at which local councillors from Shropshire County Council, South Shropshire District Council and local parish and town councils will listen to comments and concerns raised by local people, and answer their questions.

People will be able to raise any issue that is important to them. These could include the sports and leisure proposals, affordable housing, parking, and transport and tourism.

The councillors will explain what resulted from last year’s meeting, and new questions and comments can be raised for an open discussion. People can also let their councillors know in advance of specific questions they wish to raise on the night.

Everyone attending will be given feedback afterwards about what action has been taken.

James Gibson, Shropshire County Councillor for Church Stretton, said: “This Let’s Talk meeting will provide Church Stretton residents with a unique opportunity to meet councillors from all of their local councils, and all at the same time. It also provides councillors with a great opportunity to find out about the issues of interest and concern to local people.”

Mark Morris, South Shropshire District Councillor for Church Stretton South, added: “Almost 70 people attended the 2006 Let’s Talk meeting, and we hope to attract an even greater number this year. We particularly encourage more young people to come along, as we would like to fine out more about the issues that matter to them.”

Peter Relph, of Church Stretton Town Council, said: “We are delighted to once again work with our partners at county, district and parish level to give the people of the Church Stretton area another opportunity to talk to their elected representatives about what matters to them.”

Anyone who wishes to attend the meeting but is without access to transport should call Alan Wilson on (01694) 720025, to arrange transport to and from the meeting with Ring & Ride. The Ring & Ride service will be available on a first come first served basis, and people should contact Alan at least 24 hours before the meeting.

This is one of 27 “Let’s Talk” meetings being held across Shropshire before the end of October. Entry to each meeting is free and simple refreshments will be provided.
