Sharing good practice to help combat anti social behaviour

Practitioners working to tackle anti-social behaviour in Shropshire joined forces on Wednesday 20 June 2007 in a bid to tackle anti-social behaviour across Shropshire.

The “Shropshire Together Anti-Social Behaviour Workshop”, whose aim was to share good practice and develop multi-agency working, was held at the Guildhall in Shrewsbury.

Shropshire County Council's Safer Communities Team worked with a host of agencies from across the county, including local district and borough councils, landlords, Shropshire Fire and Rescue, children and young people’s services, Youth Offending Service, and West Mercia Constabulary.

Councillor Gerald Dakin, Cabinet member for safer communities, said: “For many people in Shropshire anti-social behaviour is something that they rarely experience or have to deal with. However, for other communities it can seriously impact on everyday living and quality of life. Shropshire police receive 18,000 to 20,000 calls relating to anti-social behaviour each year."

Throughout the event practitioners worked together to identify effective partnership working to tackle anti-social behaviour and ways to inform the public of what is being done to tackle anti-social behaviour in their local area.

Kelly Oldham, Anti-Social Behaviour Programme Delivery Officer said: “The overall aim of this workshop is to improve the quality and consistency of measures to tackle anti-social behaviour across Shropshire. We want to ensure that the public receive a quality service, wherever they live in the county, when reporting incidents of anti-social behaviour.
