Residents in the Mountfields area of Shrewsbury are being invited to attend a meeting of Shropshire County Council’s economy and environment scrutiny panel next week (Tuesday 24 June), when the area’s proposed residents’ parking scheme is due to be discussed.
The meeting is being held at Shirehall, starting at 5pm.
The proposed parking scheme aims to help prevent indiscriminate parking by non-residents in the Mountfields area. Proposals include a residents parking permit and will introduce parking bays.
A report to be presented to the scrutiny panel details the findings of the first of three consultation periods with local residents. Shropshire County Council sent out mailshots in April detailing the proposed parking changes and asked residents to respond as to whether they support the scheme,
Some 38% of residents within the proposed parking zone responded to the consultation, and of these 70% were in favour of the scheme. The report to the scrutiny meeting, will discuss proposed changes following the consultation.
Councillor Alan Mosley, Chairman of the economy and environment scrutiny panel, said “There is great demand, throughout the County, for consideration of such schemes and the work in Mountfields is a pilot to look at proposals and what residents think, in detail. Following that it is clear that changes will be proposed and alternatives considered. All interested parties are invited to attend and have their views heard”.
