Essential works are set to start early next week (Monday 13 August) to divert a large gas main in Coleham Head, Shrewsbury.
Murphy’s, on behalf of National Grid Gas, will move the gas main so that flood alleviation works by the Environment Agency can take place in the near future.
The work is expected to be completed within a week and will require traffic management throughout. This will involve restricting traffic to one lane on the approach to the English Bridge.
The flood alleviation work will involve replacing the current blue railings by the river with a wall and installing the facility to erect a demountable flood barrier across the road. It is hoped that this much needed scheme will limit the effects of flooding in this area.
Martyn Smith, Murphy’s planning manager, said: “I would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience these works may cause, however I hope that people will understand that these are essential in order for the Environment Agency to carry out important future flood alleviation works in this area.”
