Wem residents get chance to have their say
Residents of Wem and the surrounding area can once again have their say about issues important to them, at the annual “Let’s Talk” meeting being run by their local councils on Wednesday 19 September at Edinburgh House, Wem starting at 7.00pm.
People of all ages and backgrounds are invited to the meeting, at which local councillors from Shropshire County Council, North Shropshire District Council and local parish councils will listen to comments and concerns raised by local people, and answer their questions.
People will be able to raise any issue, and it is expected that discussions may cover subjects including community safety, rural transport, traffic, car parking, climate change and other environmental issues, and housing.
Comments can be made during a question and answer session, as well as in workshop groups, and the issues raised at the meeting will then help to shape planning at each of the councils.
Wem’s County Councillor Chris Mellings, said: “This will be the fifth annual Let’s Talk meeting, and offers Wem residents a unique opportunity to meet councillors from all of their local councils - all at the same time! It also provides a great opportunity for councillors to find out about the issues that local people are interested in or concerned about.”
Brian Williams, Shropshire County Councillor for Wem Rural, added: “Last year almost 60 people attended the Let’s Talk meeting in Wem, and I hope we will attract an even greater number this year. We are especially keen for more young people to come to the meeting this year, to tell us about the issues that matter to them. “
The meeting will begin with a brief report on what has been done over the past twelve months in response to issues raised last year. Everyone attending will be given feedback afterwards, telling them what the councils have done as a result of the meeting.
This is one of a series of 27 “Let’s Talk” meetings being held across Shropshire before the end of October. Entry to each meeting is free and refreshments will be provided.
